Natural assets: Special geological features including acidic volcanic columns at High Island may be turned into natural scenic spots.

The Government may establish a geological park in Hong Kong, turning special natural features and rock clusters into scenic spots.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang noted in his Policy Address today that Hong Kong boasts rich geological resources of high academic research, tourism and scenic value.

"The hexagonal rock columns and erosion features along the New Territories East coastline are unique attractions," he added.

He said the Government is considering the development of a geological park under the framework of the Country Parks Ordinance & Marine Parks Ordinance.

On the development of the harbourfront, Mr Tsang said the Harbour-front Enhancement Committee, and a number of community organisations, have offered suggestions and advice on ways to enhance the harbourfront.

The Development Bureau will co-ordinate the work of different government departments to ensure the effective implementation of projects to beautify and revitalise these areas.
