Packaging pact: Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau signs the Voluntary Agreement on the Management of Mooncake Packaging. |
Five local mooncake manufacturers - Arome, Heng Heung, Maxim's, Saint Honore and Taipan - have signed the one-year Voluntary Agreement on the Management of Mooncake Packaging with the Environmental Protection Department to reduce the use of packaging materials on their products.
They will conserve resources through better design and production processes, with due consideration of the Environmental Guidelines on Mooncake Packaging Design.
They will use recyclable materials and support and facilitate the recovery and recycling of used packaging.
Officiating at the signing ceremony of the voluntary agreement and the launch of the mooncake container recycling campaign at East Point City today, Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau said used mooncake boxes generate waste which can be recycled.
Container recycling
From today until October 12 people can return used mooncake containers to collection points in housing estates, commercial buildings and shopping malls managed by Sun Hung Kai Properties, Citybase Property Management, the Link Management, and the Housing Authority and Housing Society.
Containers collected will be recycled.
People can also return containers through the department's source separation facilities or similar mooncake container recovery programmes by other organisations.
