Water at 21 beaches rated 'good'

Environmental Protection Department

The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at 21 beaches 'good' and 12 'fair' for this weekend.

Compared with last week, Cheung Chau Tung Wan, Deep Water Bay, Lower Cheung Sha, Ma Wan Tung Wan, Middle Bay, Shek O and Silverstrand have been upgraded from fair to good.

However, Pui O Beach, Upper Cheung Sha Beach, Lower Cheung Sha Beach, Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Tong Fuk Beach and Lo So Shing Beach in the Islands District, and Chung Hom Kok Beach, St Stephen's Beach and  Repulse Bay Beach in Southern District are temporarily closed for shark-prevention-net maintenance until further notice.

Seven gazetted beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year-round because of poor water quality. People should not swim at these beaches.

Bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
