The Environmental Protection Department recorded 44 convictions in July for breaches of anti-pollution legislation.

Twenty-two related to waste disposal, 16 to air pollution, three to noise, and three to water pollution.

The heaviest fine was $25,000, assessed against two companies importing controlled waste without a permit, and an owners' corporation discharging waste and pollutants into a water-control zone.
