New organic veggies to be cultivated in HK

*
Three new vegetables introduced
Fresh produce: Agricultural Officer Chan Siu-lun displays little cucumbers, dark leaf white cabbages and leaf beets which will be grown in Hong Kong.

Three new vegetables cultivated by organic methods will be available next month, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says.

They are dark leaf Chinese white cabbage, little cucumber from Thailand and leaf beet from Taiwan.

The department held a seminar for local farmers today at Tai Lung Experimental Station to introduce organic cultivation methods for three new vegetables.

The vegetables are suitable for cultivation in Hong Kong in summer and fast-growing with stable crop yields. Technical support has been offered to 11 organic farmers to grow these vegetables.
