Green dream: Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School won the large garden plot project (Secondary School Section) in the Greening School Project Award.

Thirty-eight primary and secondary schools and kindergartens have been commended for their contribution to the environment.

Speaking at the Greening School Project Award presentation ceremony today, Dr Lawrence Chau, a member of the Community Involvement Committee in Greening said the Greening School Subsidy Scheme has been well received since its introduction in 2000.

The number of participating schools rose from around 300 in the first year to about 779 this year.

"The standard of green projects are on the rise. Both teachers and students are working very hard to make their schools' environment greener and more beautiful," Dr Chau said.

The scheme promotes green consciousness among students. It provides subsidies to schools to plant more trees and shrubs in campuses and organise more greening activities. Awards are given to meritorious green school projects.
