Tuen Mun beaches reopen

Shark carcass found

Shark scare: This shark was caught in a fishing net off Cafeteria Old Beach.

*

Tuen Mun's six beaches, closed due to a shark scare, reopened today.

They were closed after a fisherman caught a metre-long shark in his net off Cafeteria Old Beach at 4pm yesterday.

Leisure & Cultural Services Department staff and Marine Police enhanced patrols in the area and the Government Flying Service conducted aerial searches but no other sharks were found. Sonar checks were also conducted.

Shark nets at the beaches were inspected and are in good condition.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department identified the shark as a member of the common Carcharhinidae family.
