April was warmer than usual with a mean temperature of 23.1 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees above normal. The Hong Kong Observatory recorded 255mm of rain, 66.5mm above normal. Accumulated rainfall for the first four months of the year was 373mm, 11% above normal.

The weather was cloudy and rainy with a northeast monsoon prevailing in Hong Kong April 1 to 3. A maritime airstream over the south China coast brought some fog patches April 4 to 6. An easterly airstream brought cooler weather on April 11 and the weather was cloudy with mist and fog patches for the next three days.

The weather turned fine and hot April 15 and 16, with the latter seeing a maximum temperature of 30.8 degrees, the highest of the month.

Under the effect of Typhoon Neoguri and the northeast monsoon, April 19 saw strong winds. When Neoguri approached the coast of western Guangdong and met the northeast monsoon, heavy rain doused Hong Kong. The Observatory recorded 237.4mm of total daily rainfall, the highest recorded in April since records began. After making landfall, Neoguri weakened rapidly and the rain eased off with showers on April 20.
