The Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme can help reduce 105,000 tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions and save $135 million in electricity bills, Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau says.
Launching the promotion today, Mr Yau said he was pleased to see the support by the trade and the public in promoting the scheme and energy efficiency.
The Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Bill was passed in the Legislative Council on April 30.
Energy labels should be shown on room air conditioners, refrigerating appliances and compact fluorescent lamps in the first phrase. An 18-month transitional period will be allowed for the trade.
