Trees, shrubs green new link
*

Extensive planting works have been incorporated into the Route 8 (Cheung Sha Wan to Sha Tin) project where 1,550 trees, 70,000 whip trees and 375,000 shrubs will be grown to make the environment greener, the Highways Department says.

It held a community planting day today to boost public awareness of environmental protection through their participation in greening.

More than 150 students, parents and teachers from Cheung Sha Wan Catholic and Sham Shui Po Government Primary Schools joined the department's Major Works Project Manager Chow Ying-shun, Sham Shui Po District Council Chairman Chan Tung and members at the event.

The 5.9km new link is a dual three-lane carriageway connecting Cheung Sha Wan and Tai Wai, and will be the fourth road link between Sha Tin and Kowloon.
