Anti-pollution protocol: Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau meets California Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Linda Adams in San Francisco.

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau has met Californian environment and energy officials and business leaders on the second day of his US visit.

He yesterday met California Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Linda Adams to discuss environmental protection, particularly efforts to combat air pollution.

He later talked with California Energy Commission Chair Jackalyne Pfannenstiel on electricity market reform and learned about the state's initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy. He then called on the Chinese Consul-General in San Francisco, Gao Zhansheng.

At a luncheon held by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (San Francisco) and Northern California World Trade Centre, Mr Yau told more than 50 business leaders and corporate managers about Hong Kong's efforts in tackling air pollution locally and regionally. On climate change, he said Hong Kong's action plan has focused on enhancing energy efficiency and conservation.
