Conservation inspection: Scretary for the Environment Edward Yau inspects Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works.

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau has visited Lantau District to learn more about Tai O's rural culture and inspect the island's nature conservation work.

 

Mr Yau first visited Tai O where he was briefed on the mangrove-replanting project. He saw the Tai O Sheltered Boat Anchorage to learn how revitalisation projects will preserve the area's traditional culture and natural habitats.

 

He also visited the Tai O Rural Committee Historic & Cultural Showroom and Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works - Hong Kong's first tertiary treatment facility.

 

Mr Yau then went to Tai Ho, one of the 12 priority sites identified for enhanced conservation under the new nature conservation policy. He was briefed on the high biodiversity and ecological significance of Tai Ho stream.

 

He concluded his visit by inspecting the extension of Lantau North Country Park which will become Hong Kong's 24th country park.
