Dead shark found in Hoi Ha Wan

Shark warning: This dead juvenile blacktip shark was found in a fishing net in Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park.

People should refrain from water-based activities in Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park as a dead juvenile blacktip shark has been found there, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says.

Department staff will keep patrolling the park and watch for sharks.

The carcass was found in a fishing net near the WWF Marine Life Centre today. The shark was one-meter long and weighed 7.3kg.

Marine Police and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department have been informed of the incident.

The Jockey Club Wong Shek Water Sports Centre and the Tai Mei Tuk Water Sports Centre have been closed. Water sports in the Chong Hing Water Sports Centre's artificial lake will continue but all sea touring activities will be suspended.

The public should swim within zones enclosed by shark nets which are inspected by contractors twice a week. Independent contractors will conduct re-checks to ensure the nets function properly.
