Estates seedling scheme launched

Action Seedling
Green work: Deputy Director of Housing Ada Fung (centre) joins the others to plant a tree in Kwai Chung Estate.

The Hong Kong Housing Authority has rolled out Action Seedling, an initiative under its Community Participation Scheme. Participants help nurse seedling plants that will become part of the estates' green landscape.

Officiating at the scheme's opening ceremony, Deputy Director of Housing Ada Fung said the programme serves to strengthen community partnership and encouraged contractors to assume greater social responsibilites.

The authority, its building contractors and horticulture contractors will give out seedling plants to those interested through Estate Management Advisory Committees, as well as schools and community organisations in the neighbourhood. On completion of the construction work, these seedlings will be ready for transplanting into planters.

Fourteen new estates due for completion in the next two years will benefit from the green efforts of its community members. They are located in Sha Tin, Shau Kei Wan, Wong Tai Sin, Kwai Chung, Fanling, Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong and Tin Shui Wai.
