Clean air: Director of Environmental Protection Anissa Wong signs a consultancy agreement with Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong representatives to undertake a comprehensive study on air quality. |
The Environmental Protection Department has today awarded a consultancy agreement to Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong, to undertake a comprehensive study to draw up a new set of air-quality objectives for Hong Kong and devise a long-term plan for meeting them.
The study will examine the World Health Organisation Air Quality Guidelines released last October and the findings of relevant reviews in advanced countries.
It will provide detailed information on required specific measures, their implications and available options for achieving any new air-quality objectives for Hong Kong.
Upon completing the study by the end of 2008, the department plans to launch a public-engagement process to finalise the objectives and the required long-term strategy on air-quality management within 2009.
An advisory panel will be set up to ensure the study is properly conducted. It will comprise members from the Advisory Council on the Environment, experts from different sectors, academics and government representatives.
