Green facelift for Jordan Valley

A refreshing green hue now graces the Choi Wan Road and Jordan Valley area, thanks to the Civil Engineering & Development Department. It has recycled excavated materials to revamp and green the local environment.

At a community planting day ceremony today, Director of Civil Engineering & Development Chai Sung-veng said the department planted 40,000 trees and 200,000 shrubs and flowers along the roadside and slope berms.

Green scenes: The Civil Engineering & Development Department has given a green sheen to Jordan Valley, with Director of Civil Engineering & Development Chai Sung-veng joining students for some community tree planting.

It removed nine million cubic metres of excavated material off the site to the former Kai Tak Airport site to be reused as seawalls, construction material or for horticulture.

Mr Chai said he hoped that through direct participation, the planting day can raise public awareness of environmental protection, and people can get more involved in enhancing the environment and conserving natural resources.

The Jordan Valley development project will provide 11,000 public rental housing units to accommodate 35,000 people, along with schools, open space and government and community facilities.
