It removed nine million cubic metres of excavated material off the site to the former Kai Tak Airport site to be reused as seawalls, construction material or for horticulture.
Mr Chai said he hoped that through direct participation, the planting day can raise public awareness of environmental protection, and people can get more involved in enhancing the environment and conserving natural resources.
The Jordan Valley development project will provide 11,000 public rental housing units to accommodate 35,000 people, along with schools, open space and government and community facilities.
