A total eclipse of the moon will occur on March 4, and will be best viewed at places with unobstructed views to the west, such as Tai O, Tuen Mun, Cheung Chau and Lamma Island if the weather permits.
The eclipse will take place from 4.16am to 10.25am. Only the start of the eclipse can be observed in Hong Kong as the moon will set at 6.46am.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon enters the earth's shadow. A total eclipse of the moon means the moon becomes completely immersed into the shadow.
