January saw 42 pollution convictions, the Environmental Protection Department says.

Twenty-two were for illicit waste disposal, 13 for noise issues, four for air pollution and two for water pollution, and one ozone-layer offence.

The heaviest fine was $50,000, meted out to a company that contravened licence provisions.
