Water at 6 beaches 'good'
*
Environmental Protection Department

The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at six beaches 'good' and two 'fair' for this weekend.

Those rated 'good' include Big Wave Bay Beach, Clear Water Bay Second Beach, Deep Water Bay Beach, Middle Bay Beach, Repulse Bay Beach and Stanley Main Beach, while 'fair' ones are Golden Beach and Silverstrand Beach.

There was no change in the grading for these beaches since last week. They are equipped with shark nets.

Other gazetted beaches have been closed for swimming since November 1 for the winter season.

Seven beaches - Anglers' Beach, Approach Beach, Ting Kau Beach, Casam Beach, Gemini Beaches, Hoi Mei Wan Beach and Lido Beach - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality.

Many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain. Bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
