Phase 2 of environmental scheme launched

*
Community Environmental Programme

Joining hands: Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Thomas Chan and green group representatives launch the Green Delight in Estates (Phase II) programme.

*

The Housing Authority will launch the second phase of its long-term community environmental programme to foster environmental awareness among public housing tenants and promote waste separation.

Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Thomas Chan said the Green Delight in Estates programme launched in August last year, has been effective in raising tenant awareness of environmental protection.

A Chinese University survey found that tenants who had joined the programme in the past 12 months are more proactive in living out an environmentally-friendly life. Among them, 72% considered themselves more knowledgeable about environmental issues. The corresponding figure for tenants from housing estates that had not taken part in the programme was only 67%.

Partnering again with the Conservancy Association, Green Power and Friends of the Earth, the authority will start off the programme's second phase with a city-wide recycling activity in all public housing estates to promote waste separation at source.

The green groups will also design in-depth education activities for 30 housing estates to boost environmental protection awareness. More details about the programme are available here.
