Co-operation plea issued to wayward lorry drivers
*
Environmental Protection Department

The Environmental Protection Department has called on lorry drivers to co-operate with the Government to ensure the smooth running of landfill sites, as the implementation of construction waste disposal charges needs fine-tuning.

Today 20 lorries blocked the operation of sorting facilities and the Southeast New Territories Landfill, complaining of operational problems causing delays in the transaction.

Despite mediation by Government staff, the drivers insisted on blocking the operations at the weightbridge. About 3pm, some lorries also blocked the entrance to the Northeast New Territories fill.

The departments involved will fix the operational problems to reduce transaction time, which is now about 30 minutes.

The department urged the drivers not to inconvenience other landfill users, adding Police will intervene.
