Water at 3 beaches 'good'

*
Environmental Protection Department

Three of the four beaches open to the public have been rated "good" for this weekend, according to the Environmental Protection Department's latest grading. Other beaches have been closed for the winter season.

The three 'good' beaches are Deep Water Bay, Clear Water Bay Second Beach and Golden Beach, while Silverstrand Beach was rated "fair".

The change is generally within the normal range of fluctuation of the bacteriological water quality of the beach, the department said.

As many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain, bathers are advised to avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.

More information can be obtained from the department's website or through the hotline, 2511 6666.
