Reservoir water quality system suggested

*

The Water Supplies Department wants to install an "aerated system" to protect and improve water quality at Plover Cove Reservoir.

Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao told legislators today the system can increase oxygen levels in the water and mitigate any algae blooms.

Other measures like maintaining the reservoir's ecological balance and preventing contamination of water catchment areas will be taken.

Construction of the aerated system will be $4.5 million with annual recurrent operating costs of $300,000.

If approved, construction will start immediately for completion in March.
