New LPG stations on the way

*

Three more LPG filling stations, two in Tung Chung and one in Tai Po, will open in 2006-07, Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao says.

She told lawmakers today they will add to the present 53 LPG stations, including 12 large-scale dedicated ones. To expand the network, Dr Liao said lands granted for petrol stations in future will also require the provision of LPG facilities.

Between 2002 and 2004 there were 35 complaints against some dedicated LPG stations that were not in full operation. Another 10 complaints have been received since September. The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department has conducted surprise checks and operators have been asked to provide sufficient manpower and utilisation of all LPG facilities.

Although LPG station operations will be monitored to ensure efficiency, Dr Liao urged taxi and minibus drivers to fill up during off-peak hours to avoid congestion.
