Yearly emission caps on three air pollutants have been imposed by the Government for the first time. Renewing Castle Peak Power Station's licence for two years from today, caps will be imposed on sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and particulates.

Under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, electricity works is a Specified Process, which requires an Environmental Protection Department licence.

The facility is expected to meet emission caps by maximising use of natural gas and using coal with lower sulphur content. Click here for details of the emission caps.

The department said emission caps will also be imposed on the Black Point and Lamma power stations when their licences are renewed.
