Junior Police Call members who have won a green detectives competition will enjoy a five-day trip to Bangkok in late August to gain better understanding of conservation areas and facilities, Commissioner of Police Dick Lee says.

The "Hang Seng Bank - Junior Police Call Environmental Detectives" competition, launched in April, aimed to enhance youngsters' civic mindedness and awareness of environmental protection. The contest included web games, environmental case studies and report presentations.

The competition was well received, with over 100,000 recorded entries for the web games while over 1,200 environmental reports were received.

Mr Lee said the Junior Police Call scheme helps instill positive values and calls on young people to fight crime.

"We also hope, through the JPC, to promote their awareness of environmental protection, so that these potential leaders of society will be well equipped with knowledge of environmental protection."

Here are the competition results:

* JPC District Council champion - Wong Tai Sin

* JPC Secondary School Club champion - D.M.H.C. Siu Ming Catholic Secondary School

* JPC Primary School Club champion - Shan Tsui Public School

Wong Tai Sin JPC District Council and DMHC Siu Ming Catholic Secondary School were each awarded a $6,000 scholarship and a five-day trip to Bangkok in late August. Shan Tsui Public School was presented with a $3,000 scholarship and a trip to visit conservation areas and facilities at Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park.
