Red tide sighted off Cheung Sha Wan

*

Red tide has been sighted at the Cheung Sha Wan Fish Culture Zone.

It was seen June 30, and dissipated the following day, an inter-departmental red tide working group says.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department has urged mariculturists in the zone to monitor the situation closely.

Red tide is a natural phenomenon, formed by Skeletonema costatum and Thalassiosira nordenskioeldii. Both species are common in Hong Kong and are non-toxic.
