Wind in HK

New direction: The Hong Kong Observatory's website now features 10-minute updates on wind direction at more locations.

Outdoor sports enthusiasts can now find the latest information on wind speed and direction in different districts on the Hong Kong Observatory's website, which will be updated every 10 minutes.

The site covers wind speed and direction measured at Ngong Ping, Sha Chau, Tate's Cairn, Tai Mei Tuk and Tap Mun. Hourly wind speed and direction in the past 24 hours for each station is also available.

Windsurfing Association Director (Administration) Dennis Chau welcomed the move.

"Windsurfing can only be conducted under suitable wind conditions. The new service provided by the Hong Kong Observatory will be very helpful to windsurfers," he said.

Paragliding Association Treasurer Raymond Wong said the enhanced service and weather data from newly added stations, particularly Tap Mun and Tate's Cairn, will be very useful to paragliders.

The latest wind information can also be obtained from the observatory's Dial-a-Weather system (1878 200-3#227).
