Water at 3 beaches rated 'good'

Environmental Protection Department

Of the four beaches open to the public, three have been rated "good" and one "fair" for this weekend, according to the Environmental Protection Department's latest grading. Other beaches have been closed for the winter season.

The three beaches rated "good" are Deep Water Bay Beach, Clear Water Bay Second Beach and Silverstrand Beach. Water quality at Golden Beach remains "fair".

Compared with last week's grading, there was no change in the grading of the four beaches.

The department said the changes are generally within the normal range of fluctuation of the bacteriological water quality of the beach.

As many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggested during and after periods of heavy rain, bathers are advised to avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.

More information can be obtained from the department's website or through the hotline, 2511 6666.
