2 of 4 open beaches rated 'good'
*
Environmental Protection Department

Of the four beaches open to the public, two have been rated "good" and two "fair" for this weekend, according to the Environmental Protection Department's latest grading. Other beaches were closed for the winter season.

The two beaches rated "good" are Deep Water Bay Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach. Water quality at Golden Beach and Silverstrand Beach are "fair".

Compared with last week's grading, water quality at Silverstrand Beach changed from "good" to "fair".

The department said the changes are generally within the normal range of fluctuation of the bacteriological water quality of the beach.

As many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain, bathers are advised to avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.

More information can be obtained from the department's website or by calling the hotline, 2511 6666.
