Green scheme: Bringing your used mooncake containers to collection booths for recovery will not only save the planet, it will also save your money.

Booths will be set up at 12 shopping centres and 27 Towngas outlets from September 25 to recover used mooncake containers.

People can take paper or tin mooncake containers to the booths from noon to 7pm on September 25, 26, 29 and 30, and October 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10. They will be given a set of coupons which can be used at 130 designated restaurants and food outlets, two cake shop chains and Towngas outlets.

The programme aims to enhance environmental awareness and encourage recycling. About 200 private housing estates have signed up to hold similar activities during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Principal Environmental Protection Officer Betty Cheung said the programme, launched last year, is an ongoing partnership with the restaurant trade. About 25,000 mooncake containers, mostly tin, were recovered during last year's recovery.

This year's programme is co-organised by the Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades, the Association of Restaurant Managers, and the Association of Property Management Companies.
