Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition site at the World Exposition Shanghai China 2010 has been handed to the Government.
Deputy Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development (Communications & Technology) Alan Siu and Deputy Director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Exposition Co-ordination Zhang Yunjie signed a memorandum on the handover today.
Mr Siu said the handover is another milestone in the preparations for the Shanghai Expo, adding construction work will start as soon as possible.
"We will then move to the interior fitting out and installation of exhibits. All work is due to be finished by March, in time for a trial run in April," he said.
Hong Kong's exhibition theme is Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life. The outer wall of the exhibition will comprise LED displays converting the number of visitors into pixels to form images.
Inside visitors will be immersed in a 360-degree video showing the different contrasts of Hong Kong. Virtual hosts will help visitors experience the convenience and efficiency of Hong Kong's smart card and Radio Frequency Identification technology applications.
Shanghai Expo will be held May 1 to October 31 on the Huangpu River waterfront between the Nanpu and Lupu Bridges. More than 240 countries and international organisations will take part in the expo, which is expected to attract 70 million visitors.
