Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan has arrived in Frankfurt for a six-day visit to Germany and Switzerland.
He attended the Euro Finance Week Opening Concert on November 15. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet will host a welcoming lunch on November 16 for Prof Chan, where they will exchange views on recent financial market reforms.
Prof Chan will also meet with German Securities Institute Managing Director Prof Rudiger von Rosen, Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Officer Dr Josef Ackermann, Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of German Banks Dr Lutz Raettig, and Chamber of Commerce Frankfurt President Dr Mathias M�ller.
On November 17, Prof Chan will call on Hesse State Minister of Finance Karl Heinz Weimar. He will also meet with the Chief Executive Director of BaFin (Swiss Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) Karl-Burkhard Caspari, and visit the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
Conference speech
In the afternoon, he will address the Euro Finance Week Lead Conference. After the conference, Prof Chan will leave for Zurich, Switzerland.
On November 18, Prof Chan will meet with Credit Suisse Group Chairman Hans-Ulrich Doerig and Secretary General of the Association of Foreign Banks in Switzerland Dr Martin Maurer. At a business executive luncheon, Prof Chan will brief guests on the latest business developments in Hong Kong.
In the afternoon, he will go to Bern to call on Swiss Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs Doris Leuthard. He will attend a dinner hosted by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority Chief Executive Dr Patrick Raaflaub.
On November 19, Prof Chan will call on Swiss Federal Finance Administration Ambassador Alexander Karrer. Returning to Zurich midday, Prof Chan will visit the Swiss Stock Exchange and meet with Swiss National Bank Vice Chairman and Chairman (designate) Philipp Hildebrand, and UBS Chairman Kaspar Villiger. He will then speak at the Swiss-Hong Kong Business Association Dinner.
On November 20, Prof Chan will meet with Swiss Private Bankers Association Chairman Dr Konrad Hummler. He will then join a lunch hosted by the Swiss Bankers Association. Prof Chan will return to Hong Kong on November 21.
