Securities commission chairman to stay

Securities & Futures Commission

Eddy Fong has been reappointed Chairman of the Securities & Futures Commission for two years from October 20.

Announcing the appointment today, Financial Secretary John Tsang said Mr Fong has led the commission board through the global financial crisis and fostered a close liaison with the commission's Mainland counterparts.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Lee has been appointed a non-executive director for two years from November 15. Chan Kam-lam has been reappointed for the same period. He has been serving as a non-executive director since November 2007 and Mr Lee is currently Chairman of the Hong Kong, Mainland and Vietnam offices of Baker & McKenzie.

"With his legal expertise and rich experience in corporate finance we look forward to Mr Lee's contribution to the work of the commission," Mr Tsang said.

He also paid tribute to outgoing non-executive director Christopher Cheng whose term will expire in November. He said Mr Cheng's service in the past six years has been instrumental in enhancing the commission's corporate governance, accountability and transparency.
