Exchange Fund foreign assets up $55.3b

Foreign assets, representing the external assets of the Exchange Fund, amounted to $1.639 trillion at the end of August, up $55.3 billion on July, the Monetary Authority says.

 

The Monetary Base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, Government issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the Aggregate Balance and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued, amounted to $792.1 billion.

 

Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to $93.9 billion, while foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to $400 million.
