Service industry business receipts fall
*
Census & Statistics Department

Business receipts for almost all the major service industries fell in the second quarter, the Census & Statistics Department says.

The accommodation trade - mainly referring to services provided by hotels - recorded the largest decline at 28%, mainly due to the spread of human swine flu.

Other significant decreases were recorded in the transportation (-26%), financing (except banking) (-20.7%), courier (-18.9%), import and export (-18.5%), wholesale (-16.2%), and administrative and support services (-13.1%) trades.

However, real estate service recorded a 6.9% year-on-year increase due to a notable rebound in the property market.

Analysed by service domain, business receipts of the computer and information technology services domain dropped 12% while the tourism, convention and exhibition services domain recorded an 11% year-on-year drop.
