Views sought on toy safety rules
*

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to safety standards stipulated in the Toys & Children's Products Safety Ordinance.

Apart from updating the standards, the Government proposes other amendments. They are:

* removing "baby nests" from the list of designated children's products under the ordinance as the only applicable safety standard for this product has been withdrawn by the relevant standards institute;

* adopting the most up-to-date standards and adding new ones for some children's products; and,

* improving the drafting of the ordinance to put it beyond doubt that a toy meeting any of the sets of toy standards is deemed to be safe for the purposes of the ordinance.

For more details click here. Comments can be mailed to the bureau at Level 29, One Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Hong Kong or by sending an email by September 23.
