KC Chan to visit Belgium, UK
*
Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan will leave tonight for a four-day visit to Brussels and London to exchange views with finance officials and business executives there on measures to deal with the global financial crisis as well as financial market regulatory reform.


Arriving in Brussels tomorrow, Prof Chan will call on Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister & Finance Minister Didier Reynders, National Bank of Belgium Governor Guy Quaden, and the European Commission's Commissioner for Taxation & Customs Union L�szl� Kov�cs.


On Tuesday, he will call on Banking, Finance & Insurance Commission Management Committee Chairman Jean-Paul Servais. He will also deliver a keynote speech at a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Brussels and the Belgium-Hong Kong Society before departing for London in the afternoon.

 

In London, Prof Chan will call on the Treasury Financial Services Secretary Lord Myners, Financial Services Authority Chairman Lord Turner, and members of Parliament. He will meet with leading executives from the London Stock Exchange, British Bankers' Association and a representative of the City of London's Lord Mayor.


He will also join the Parliamentary dinner with the All Party Parliamentary China Group hosted by the Hong Kong Association and attend a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in London. He will also meet with Hong Kong students at a tea gathering.


Prof Chan will return to Hong Kong on May 7.
