The Architectural Services Department today signed a design and build contract with Gammon Construction for the Hong Kong Pavilion at the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai China.
The pavilion's theme will be "Hong Kong - A City with Unlimited Potential" when the expo opens on May 1, 2010. The design is based on the winning entry of a concept design competition the Government held earlier this year.
The contract includes detailed design and construction, interior fitting out, exhibition works, landscaping, maintenance, and dismantling after the expo. Site preparation works will start by year's-end. The pavilion will be finished by early 2010 for commissioning and testing ahead of the expo opening.
The site is close to the China National Pavilion in Pudong, and will have an exhibition area of 800 square metres. It will have three levels and a sleek, contemporary look to showcase the infinite imagination and creativity of Hong Kong and its people.
The expo will be held until October 2010 on the Huangpu River waterfront between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge. Hong Kong will also participate in the Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition highlighting its extensive use of smart card technology, and a promotion campaign.
