The Tourism Board will hold a countdown celebration on the harbourfront New Year's Eve featuring a five-minute choreographed musical pyrotechnic show.

The event will start 11.15pm with music and dance performances on the viewing deck of the Cultural Centre, which will be projected on the centre's facade, along with the fireworks show.

The actual countdown will start one minute before midnight with a gigantic numerical countdown display in LED lights. When the countdown reaches naught the musical pyrotechnic show will erupt from buildings on Hong Kong Island.

There will be a video and photograph competition to capture the spectacular pyrotechnic display. Winning entries may be featured in the board's overseas promotions.

It will also promote travel products themed on the event, such as New Year countdown night tours and harbour cruises.
