Investment ideas: Chief Executive Donald Tsang leads a delegation to attend the Expo Central China 2008 in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang has asked the Mainland authorities to help Hong Kong enterprises which face industrial relocation and restructuring problems in the Mainland.

Speaking to the press in Wuhan, Hubei Province this afternoon, Mr Tsang said Wuhan has been promoting technological advancement in its enterprises, adding Hong Kong enterprises can take reference from Wuhan's experience.

The Chief Executive hoped his visit to the city can help Hong Kong enterprises have a better understanding of the development opportunities in Hubei and the Mainland's central region.

Mr Tsang also met Vice Premier Wang Qishan during his stay in the province. They discussed global economic issues including global financial challenges and the opportunities and challenges Hong Kong and Asia would face in future.

When asked how to tackle the inflation problem in Hong Kong, Mr Tsang said the Government attaches great importance to the issue, adding the 2008-09 Budget has outlined measures to alleviate the grass roots' burden. More tailor-made initiatives may be introduced for individual sectors, if necessary.

On the Wage Protection Movement, he said a final review will be conducted when the movement comes to an end, reiterating that the Government will prepare for the introduction of legislation for a minimum wage if the campaign fails to yield satisfactory results.

When asked whether he will be one of the torch bearers of the May 2 Hong Kong leg of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay, he said the issue will be decided by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee. Noting the honour should go to athletes, Mr Tsang said he will officiate at the event.
