More than 100 industrial and commercial sector representatives attended an environmental protection seminar organised by the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Co-operation and the Trade & Industry Department today.
Opening the 'Environmental Protection - A Challenge or an Opportunity?' seminar committee chairman Professor Edward Chen said the event highlights the importance of environmental protection. Pacific Economic Co-operation Council members expressed concern over climate change last year.
Productivity Council Executive Director Wilson Fung spoke on how cleaner production can help firms enhance competitiveness and how investment in environmental protection can help cut expenditure.
Other participants shared experience in issues like implementing environmental management measures and green manufacturing, landfill gas utilisation and turning renewable energy into business opportunities, and corporate environmental responsibility.
The committee was established in 1990 to advise the Government on matters relating to Hong Kong's participation in the PECC and has 12 members from the academic, business and government sectors.
