Completed residential units hit 10-year low

*

Last year saw 12,900 private residential units started under construction and 10,500 completed in the primary market, the lowest for the last 10 years, the Transport & Housing Bureau says.

Compared with 2006, the number of units under construction in the last year fell 25.4%, and completed units also dropped, 36.7%

According to statistics on the private-housing supply in the primary market rolled out today, there were 10,000 unsold units in completed projects and 47,000 units under construction at the end of 2007. Subtracting the 2,000 units sold by presale, the total number of units available for disposal is 55,000.

For last year's fourth quarter, there were 4,900 private-housing units started under construction, down 20.9% over the third quarter.
