Star Ferry franchise extended
*

The Chief Executive-in-Council has approved a 10-year extension of the Star Ferry Company's franchised Tsim Sha Tsui to Central and Wan Chai services from April 1.

The Transport & Housing Bureau has introduced several new clauses in the new franchise, such as adopting the latest technology to cut exhaust emissions and conducting regular passenger satisfaction surveys.

The company will enhance its operational transparency by strengthening procurement guidelines. It has also pledged to install closed-circuit television systems in the navigation and engine rooms of its vessels to monitor safety performance. Fare concessions will be maintained.
