Deputy Director-General of Trade & Industry Ngai Wing-chit said the Government appreciates and supports the direction of the Mainland's processing trade policy changes, adding the trade should plan for necessary business adjustments and upgrade early.
Speaking at a seminar jointly organised by the Guangdong and Hong Kong Governments today, Mr Ngai said the recent changes in the processing trade policy brought challenges to the processing trade enterprises.
However, with the upgrading and transformation of industries and further improvement in processing trade management, these changes were beneficial to the long-term development of the processing trade, as well as the enterprises engaging in the trade, he added.
Mr Ngan said the trade should upgrade their operational and technological level, develop their own brands and exploit the rapidly developed consumer markets in the Mainland, to reposition their long-term business development.
