Restaurant receipts up 11.7% in Q2

The restaurants sector recorded total receipts of $16.6 billion in the second quarter, up 11.7% on the same period last year, with the value of total purchases of restaurants rising 14% to $5.7 billion.

 

The Census & Statistics Department said after discounting the effect of price changes, total restaurant receipts rose 9.5%.

 

Analysed by type of restaurant, total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants grew 16.5% in value or 14% in volume, while miscellaneous eating and drinking places receipts grew 8.8% in value or 5.4% in volume.

 

Total receipts of fast-food shops rose 7.4% in value or 5.5%. As for bars, total receipts grew 7% in value or 4.3% in volume.

 

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, the volume of total restaurant receipts rose 2% in the second quarter as compared to the first quarter.

 

Comparing the first half of 2007 with the same period last year, total restaurant receipts rose 11.7% in value or 9.5% in volume.
