Flat construction pace cools

*
private flats
For sale: At the end of June there were 54,000 private flats available for sale.

This year's second quarter saw construction start on 700 private flats, down 83% on the same period last year, while 600 units were completed, an 89.7% drop, the Transport & Housing Bureau says.

Compared with this year's first quarter, the number of units starting construction fell 36%, while the number of units completed dropped 74%.

At the end of June there were 4,000 units in the private housing primary market sold by presale and 54,000 - including 15,000 unsold flats in completed projects and 39,000 under construction but not yet sold or offered for presale - available for disposal. The figures do not include 13,000 units from disposed land where construction has yet to start.
