Hong Kong residents made 43.4 million personal trips to the Mainland last year, with 57% made by men, the Census & Statistics Department says.

According to the June 2007 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics released today, residents aged 40 to 49 made 26% of the personal trips.

The employed made about 24.8 million trips. The highest proportion - 29% - was made by residents working in the wholesale, retail and import/export trades, restaurants and hotels sector.

Personal travel covers package-tour and non-package-tour mode for purposes such as holiday-making, visits to friends and relatives, and attending recreational and cultural programmes.

The report also carries features on composite employment estimates for 2006, the Chinese medicine sector in Hong Kong, container statistics from 2001-2006 and statistics on sectoral concentration. Click here to download it for free.
