Ngong Ping piazza proposed
*

The Economic Development & Labour Bureau proposes to develop a landscaped piazza at Ngong Ping and upgrade related facilities, at an estimated cost of $69.4 million.

The piazza, at 1.52 hectares, will link Ngong Ping's attractions, like Ngong Ping Village, the Giant Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. It includes the associated storm water drainage works, a roundabout at the end of Ngong Ping Road, and a public toilet at the public transport interchange, to cater for the increasing visitor demand.

Lighting, seating, landscaping and greening works will be added. The piazza will open free to the public.

The bureau has entrusted the Mass Transit Railway Corporation with the design of the proposal and plan to entrust it with the construction works as well.

The bureau will seek the Public Works Sub-committee's endorsement in October and funding approval by the Finance Committee in November. Construction is scheduled for the end of 2007 or early 2008, for completion in 2009.
