Historic charm: The Aberdeen tourism project aims to highlight living culture by redeveloping both sides of the Aberdeen harbour.

The Tourism Commission has presented the Aberdeen tourism project conceptual design paper to the Southern District Council, suggesting redeveloping both sides of the Aberdeen harbour as a fisherman's wharf.

It suggests using traditional sampans to connect Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau, and providing a link with Ocean Park.

It also suggested building thematic architecture on Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau seafronts, featuring Chinese and Western seafood restaurants and retail shops, as well as open space for alfresco dining and festive and cultural activities.

As both sides of the fishing harbour will be natural vantage points for viewing the annual dragon boat festival races, the project also suggested developing venues for a dragon boat gallery and facilities for floating maritime exhibitions.

The design encourages the development of special visitor routes, such as temple walks on Ap Lei Chau north, and organising local cultural events to enhance tourists' interest. 

It includes supporting facilities, such as a visitor information centre, additional coach parking and pick-up and drop-off points.

This project was designed by a consultancy, and the commission will examine its feasibility in consultation with the market.
